Weekenders and the Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization
|
Since the Y-ME partnership
began in March 1988, Weekenders Coordinators
nationwide have donated more than $300,000 to
help Y-ME heighten breast cancer awareness and
support Y-ME's mission to ensure that no one
faces breast cancer alone. At the heart of Y-ME's
mission is the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Hotline,
the only free-of-charge 24-hour Call Center operated
by trained peer counselors who are also breast
cancer survivors. The Hotline is available in
English and Spanish, in addition to 150 other languages.
|
These survivors, who listen and answer questions from more than 30,000 callers each year, empower the caller to make educated decisions about breast health by offering treatment options and objective information. They also guide them to the appropriate resources, and a offer a sympathetic ear to help them sort through their feelings of fear. These survivors inspire the caller to take a positive proactive role in their own - or their friend or family member's - healing and health.
